Lake Geneva Area has a Wealth of Resources for Eating Locally Grown Food
Walworth County’s Agricultural Offerings Provide A Wide Variety of Fresh Food
ELKHORN, Wis. — (September 30, 2009) — The Lake Geneva area, including all of Walworth County, has ample resources for those who are committed to eating locally grown foods. With a variety of farmer’s markets, poultry and cattle farms and vineyards, nutritious, self-sustaining meals can be prepared with resources available locally. Eating locally not only ensures that food is purchased and consumed when it is fresh, but it also reduces the environmental footprint caused by shipping food long distances.
Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, located in East Troy is a public, non-profit organization devoted to developing an agriculture that can sustain the land and its resources. It strives to revitalize farming through research, education, technical assistance and public policy. The Institute offers workshops and classes to the community.
