County Administrator David Bretl Named Wisconsin Friend of Extension

Walworth County Administrator David Bretl has been recognized by Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) as the Wisconsin Friend of Extension. The award was presented by UW-Extension Dean and Director Rick Klemme, ESP President Christine Kniep, and Walworth County UW-Extension Department Heads Peg Reedy and Jenny Wehmeier at the Wisconsin Joint Council of Extension Professionals Con-ference in Green Bay on April 7th.

Epsilon Sigma Phi is both an honorary and educational fraternity, with nearly 10,000 committed career professionals representing 47 active state/territory chapters. There are over 300 members in Wisconsin. Epsilon Sigma Phi is dedicated to fostering standards of excellence in the Extension System and developing the Ex-tension profession and professional.

Bretl was nominated by the Walworth County UW-Extension office for his out-standing public service and support to Extension programs. Dave has twice served on a panel of County Administrators and County Executives at the UW-Extension Statewide Department Heads conference. He also presented a workshop to the Community Partner Advisory Group (CPAG) regarding county budgeting and its effects on Walworth County UW-Extension. Bretl has contributed helpful advice and assistance to Cooperative Extension to improve and advance the important partnership between county government and Cooperative Extension.

His nomination included “Dave Bretl’s trust based leadership style provides an ex-ample for all county departments. The emphasis on value of work performed to the citizens of Walworth County and its impacts has been reassuring in difficult eco-nomic times. His strong leadership and support of UW-Extension programs make him a true Friend of Extension.”
